Mehitable Larkin Holland Pierpoint inherited the ordinary property from her father, John Larkin, and operated it with her first husband, Otho Holland. After Holland died in 1702, she went to court to have the license renewed in her name. Mehitable later remarried, but by 1708, John Pierpoint, her second husband, had abandoned the family. As a result, she returned to court and was granted special status to collect unpaid fees for the ordinary in his name, which was unusual, as women did not usually have such rights.
